Only in his early 20s at present, Ryan Rickelton has been a part of Gauteng since 2015. With a terrific average of 45.75 in first-class cricket alongside his wicket-keeping skills, Rickelton has notched up five centuries in the format. Although he was dismissed for a duck in his debut first-class innings, the youngster showed character to bounce back and play determined as well courageous knocks in the next few innings.

He has been the leading run-getters in few of the tournaments for Gauteng, the 2017–18 CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge and 2017–18 Sunfoil 3-Day Cup being two of them where he scored 351 runs and 562 runs respectively. The young wicket-keeper batsman was named in Highveld Lions squad in June 2018 and was also named in the Cricket South Africa Emerging Squad in July 2018.

In 2021, Rickelton was named in South Africa’s T20 squad for the home games against Pakistan. He was part of the squad for the games against Netherlands and the home Tests against India. However, Rickelton had to wait a while before getting that first opportunity in white ball for the Proteas. He made his ODI debut in March 2023 against West Indies, and a T20I debut came more than a year later.

Rickelton was kept as understudy to Quinton de Kock for a good chunk of his early career, despite his consistent performances in the SA20 for MI Cape Town. Post de Kock’s retirement, Rickelton was phased into the team and got more opportunities across formats.

He played the home Tests against Pakistan in 2024-25, and scored a sensational double century in the second test. A couple of months later, Rickelton was picked in the 2025 Champions Trophy squad and he started off with a century against Afghanistan. He will also be seen in IPL 2025, playing for Mumbai Indians.
